概要
学修到達目標 | The goals of this course are for students to improve their academic writing and presentations skills. Goals include gaining basic writing skills, the completion of a short paper, the translation of a paper to English, gaining presentation skills, and completion of a poster and slides for presentations. This course will prepare students for the CST 学術講演会. |

授業形態及び 授業方法 |
This course will be taught in a way to facilitate communication and networking among writers, presenters, and audiences. Participants will engage in use of model papers and collaborative analysis to improve their understanding of the writing process and their own papers. |

This course uses a data-driven approach to writing. Throughout the course you will edit and improve your writings and presentations by learning vocabulary and grammar structures that native English speakers in your research area use. |
授業計画
第1回 | The course will be introduced, and participants will take an initial evaluation and a course survey. Current research projects, deadlines, and goals will be discussed. |

第2回 | Background Reading and Data-driven Learning: We will discuss how to quickly read research papers to decide if they are good or not. Then, we will look for 10 good papers as background research (our language data). |
第3回 | Writing workshop: Citation and References The importance of citation and reference cannot be understated. Different styles/formats of citation and reference will be examined. |
第4回 | Writing workshop: Methods The methods section describes how and with what tools the research was performed. |
第5回 | Presentation workshop: Participants will present and receive feedback in order to improve their slides and speaking. |
第6回 | Writing workshop: Results The results are the data gained from the research. How to describe data and present it will be discussed. |
第7回 | Presentation workshop: Participants will present and receive feedback in order to improve their slides and speaking. |
第8回 | Writing workshop: Conclusion The conclusion is a summary of the main results and possible future research. |
第9回 | Presentation workshop: Participants will present and receive feedback in order to improve their slides and speaking. |
第10回 | Writing workshop: Introduction The introduction starts with your topic and provides background detailing research related to your specific project. |
第11回 | Presentation workshop: Participants will present and receive feedback in order to improve their slides and speaking. A focus will be on questions and answers. |
第12回 | Writing workshop: Peer-review of final draft |
第13回 | Final presentations and discussions |
第14回 | Final presentations and discussions |
第15回 | Final evaluation, student survey and reflections, future projects, and student evaluation of course |

Writing is a process. Presenting requires practice. The more you do (of any kind in any language), the better you will become. The syllabus contents may be adjusted to suit the proficiency levels and needs of the students in the course. |
